NEGATIVSJean-Kenta Gauthier

(monographie) 2012

For her series « Négatifs » (2012), Sara Imloul, a French photographer born in 1986, directly exposed the paper in her 4x5 inches camera; thus creating unique negative pieces. Pure, each photograph keeps with the matrix of photography achieved through contact print. In her case, an original and irreproducible negative imprinted on paper replaces the contact print. These small pieces are worthy of a cabinet of curiosities. Sara Imloul considers the constraints of the unique negative and its fixed framing as a creative principle: the artist plays with the blacks and the whites to create images, often vaguely abstract, who bear an uncanny resemblance with drawing and etching.
